Customer Reviews

Works like a charm. All ice trays should be like this. These are great little items. The lid is the real selling point. Keeps you from having to walk on eggshells to the freezer to keep from spilling water on the floor. All you have to do is open the cap on top, pour in one and a quarter cups (300ml) of water, and shake gently from side to side a couple of times to evenly distribute the water and you're done. The only drawback is the cost. 10 bucks is a lot to pay for a couple of pieces of plastic. I liked them so much I thought I might buy another pair, but I think I could get my built-in ice maker fixed for about $50 bucks. That keeps a $20 investment in ice trays from sounding like such a good idea. 5Lids Work to Prevent Spillage and Keep Freezer Odor OutThe covers on these ice cube trays are the selling point. They stop spills and keep freezer odor out. I did not find the filling holes in the lids all that useful, it's easier to fill the tray without it's lid then snap the lid on afterwards.I own several of the more expensive OXO trays OXO Good Grips No-Spill Ice Cube Tray with Silicone lid and compared to these trays they have pros and cons. The OXO trays are more flexible and easier to pop ice cubes out of, and the silicone lids are easier and faster to use. These ChefLand trays do a better job keeping all the liquid inside the cubes compared to the OXO trays where a lot of liquid runs off into the gutters on the sides of the tray where it is wasted or pops out when 'cracking' the trays and makes a mess. These ChefLand trays are half the price of the OXO trays and overall represent a better value. These trays are not perfect, but they're one of the best options currently available for covered spill proof ice cube trays. 5We love these ice cube trays. We like these ice cube trays with lids the best! They can be stacked in our freezer, one on top of the other. The tops are protective. They make the trays less apt to get ice cream (or other things) which we throw in our freezer into the ice. Also, the tops of these have a hole so that you can pour water in efficiently, filling each tray all the way up, but not overdoing it, after you have snapped the top to the bottom of each one. It is a good design. When your ice is frozen, just take the top off, twist the tray, and the ice will release itself.I flip the tray top over at that point and let all the cubes rest on the top of the tray on my kitchen counter as I fill up my kid's water bottlewith ice,We have bought four of these--two sets.Additionally, they have no odor, when you get them or later on.Recommended! 5Nice ice trays, OK for folks with dexterity issuesI have hand dexterity issues due to severe arthritis and was looking for covered ice cube trays (to avoid spilling water) that also were easy to get the ice to pop out of. I'm happy enough with these ice trays - although I have been unable to get the covers all the way onto the trays. I can get the cover down on three sides, which enables me to get the trays to the freezer without spilling and stack the trays in the freezer. Once frozen, the ice pops out quite easily - a little twist on the edge of the sink, applying pressure on either end of the tray with my forearms, loosens most of the ice. A quick bang against the counter loosens any stubborn hold outs. Because I can't get the covers all the way onto the trays, I don't use the flip up opening to fill the trays with water, but that hasn't been an issue. For people with no dexterity issues, these trays will probably work completely as expected. 4Not all it's cracked up to be.I read the reviews on these and decided to take a chance anyway as my ice maker stopped working and I have a french door fridge and no place to put regular ice trays. These are not spill proof. The top just helps keep things off of them but they have to be completely flat and if they fall or tip over, the water will come out. The trays themselves are not very flexible and it's hard to get the ice out. In addition the size of the cubes is kind of odd - they are a bit odd size, not large like normal trays and yet not small like some either. All in all it's an ok product and it's something I needed but it could be constructed differently and the price was a bit steep for what you receive. 3Works fine once you get used to itFollow this procedure:1) bang covered ice tray on counter top to loosen cubes (twisting does not work very well)2) lift cover off but place it back on loosely3)tip the whole thing over4)lift the tray part and cubes are now sitting on the cover5)if you are not using all of them, you can carefully place the tray back over the remaining cubes and they should all be back in their original positions.6)hold the cover and tray together and tip it back over7)I prefer to refill the tray without the cover being on; it's your choice8)when placing the cover back on, it's easier if you place it evenly across the top of the tray and push down from the middle to the end rather than start at the end.My suggestion for the manufacturer would be to offer two sizes of trays. These cubes are smaller than the standard ones you may be used to from Rubbermaid. 4These are the perfect ice cube traysThese are the perfect ice cube trays. I bought them once and now I'm buying some more. These are super easy to store in the freezer and keep the ice from picking up weird tastes and smells. I have begun reducing chicken stock down and keeping the equivalent of one cup in each ice cube so it's easy to reconstitute, and it works quite well for keeping those tasting normal. 5First one was great; Bought another later and the quality went downhill!Edit: I bought another set several months later, and the lid is terrible. Amazing that the quality could suffer in such a short period of time! The lid (that opens and closes for the opening) pops off, has practically nothing to hold it in place! I highly recommended the older version, but not this one.---I love that this has a lid with an opening. What a great idea! No more tip-toeing across the room with a bunch of water, and I think it probably cuts down on the icky freezer smell that cubes tend to pick up. It was either this or buy another countertop icemaker -- ours failed in less than a year and reviews suggested that's a common problem. Save $100-200 and buy these and refill your ice trays a little more frequently. 2Works really well and the lid is ideal.Got these to make coffee ice cubes for my frozen coffee drinks. Not only do they work great for that, they work great in general. After you use these, you'll realize a lid is an absolute must have on all ice cube tray/molds you buybecause it reduces spills, as well as odors/flavors seeping into your ice cubes.Getting ice out of these trays is also very easy, particularly compared to all the silicone ice molds I've used. The lid even helps get the ice out without cubes going everywhere. You can just crack the ice with the lid on, open the lid, tip the lid and tray over onto a counter, then lift the tray, leaving you with cubes sitting on the lid.So if you are in the market for an easy to use ice cube tray, this 2-pack is definitely a great one to buybecause it's easy to fill, easy to freeze, and easy to empty out. 5Great Product, but Breaks Easily if DroppedI bought this to make ice easily and with no added taste/odor.The product is very good for these purposes. The filling is quick and even, given the recessed cube areas with flow ducts in rivets between cubes just above the surface. The pop-out is smooth and seamless.A couple of minor cons:1. The lids don't fit on easily. Most of the time, I just leave them unsealed and resting on top for stacking, now.2. One of my trays is already broken because of a drop of a few feet to the floor. This plastic should not be dropped. It'll snap into pieces if it is. I guess that comes with the territory of the BPA-free, etc., though.I'm still giving this 5 stars because I'll probably end up reordering the same thing, but taking better care of it next time. 5
